The SBA 7(a) Loan Program is the U.S. Small Business Administration’s primary business loan program. It can help eligible small businesses obtain financing through participating lenders for a wide range of business purposes.
Maximum Loan Amount
Eligible borrowers may qualify for SBA 7(a) financing of up to $5 million, subject to SBA program requirements, lender underwriting, and borrower eligibility.
Common Uses
SBA 7(a) financing may be used for eligible business purposes including:
- Working capital
- Business acquisitions
- Complete or partial changes of ownership
- Business expansion
- Machinery and equipment
- Furniture, fixtures, and supplies
- Refinancing eligible business debt
- Leasehold improvements
- Acquiring, refinancing, or improving qualifying commercial real estate
- Construction or renovation of qualifying business property
- Multiple eligible business purposes within a single financing transaction
Repayment Terms
Repayment terms depend on the use of proceeds, the borrower’s repayment ability, and the useful life of the assets being financed.
Generally:
- Working capital and most business-purpose financing: up to 10 years
- Equipment financing: generally up to 10 years, although longer terms may be available when justified by the useful life of the equipment
- Commercial real estate financing: up to 25 years, subject to SBA program requirements
Interest rates are negotiated between the borrower and the participating lender and are subject to applicable SBA maximums.
